Language RequirementS
There are no language requirements to go to Poland. English is widely spoken and it is advisable to be familiar with the Polish language before you depart.
School
The Polish school year runs from September to June, including a winter break. High school students, known as “licealista,” attend either general education liceum, vocational schools, or technical schools, focusing on a broad range of academic subjects or specific vocational skills.
Polish schools emphasize a comprehensive education, including languages (with English being widely taught), mathematics, sciences, history, and geography, fostering a well-rounded academic experience.
After school, teenagers engage in various extracurricular activities, from sports clubs and music classes to technology and language clubs, showcasing a broad range of interests and talents. Social life is equally important, with teenagers often gathering in cafes, parks, or shopping malls and attending concerts, movies, and festivals that are abundant throughout the country.
Family
Polish family life is traditionally close-knit, with extended families often gathering for meals, holidays, and celebrations, emphasising the importance of familial bonds and heritage. Teenagers enjoy a mix of activities, from engaging in sports and outdoor adventures in Poland’s beautiful landscapes to participating in arts, music, and digital entertainment. Family dinners are a common practice, providing a time for sharing and connectivity, making it an ideal setting for exchange students to integrate and learn about Polish customs and daily life.
